Tune in tomorrow to Beach 104.1 to hear Capt Greg and Capt Tami Gray from Wicked Tuna Outer Banks!
Sometimes, you need to watch what you wish for. In the last month and a half, we were lucky to have good weather, and a full schedule. Fishing was great, and we made a long stretch of days without a break. Today is the third day this week we missed due to weather, I am thankful for the break! I have a few days open next week and the tunas are still nibbling! Give me a call and we will get you out fishing! 252-216-9034
Once again, the Sharks have been on a rampage! It seems that every time we hook a tuna, we are hoping and praying that it won’t get eaten by the seemingly thousands of “endangered” sharks that are here on the grounds. NMFS has declared a moratorium on a directed shark fishery on the East Coast. Apparently, this is one more mismanaged fishery by the powers that be! The stocks have apparently rebounded to record levels, although no fisheries scientist will tell you. Fishermen up and down the East Coast have seen record numbers of sharks, yet they are not allowed to harvest them. In the meantime, sometimes hundreds of tuna are being eaten off the lines of Oregon inlet Charter and commercial boats every day. Endangered species, I think not! We were fortunate today, and only lost one bigeye to the sharks, and we managed to land two bigeyes, 172# and 111#, along with a few dolphin and a couple of 60# yellowfin. We have a few dates open the first week of July, 252-216-9034 if you are ready to go Fishin’!
We left the Inlet with one other boat headed to the 680, well north of the fleet. After we set out, the fleet was getting some bites down on the Point, and my running partner deserted us to chase the bite. We stayed and hooked a bigeye, 115#. We started fishing south, and hooked one out of two bigeyes, 135#. After spotting the fleet approaching, we turned back North, and hooked three more bigeyes. We pulled a hook, broke another off at the boat, and landed one more, 147#. Not a bad day’s work!
