It’s late July, and the yellowfin are still hanging out below the Point, still chasing flyers, and still being caught with kites! We have had a great month of tuna fishing and, hopefully, they stay around for another month! Check out today’s young anglers, Maya is only ten, and caught a tuna that was bigger than her. Thanks to our Seamount standup harness, she landed the biggest fish of her life!
Last week the SAMFC decided to open the tile fishery. After nearly a year of a one fish per boat limit, the fishery was opened at 3 per person. My group opted for dolphin today, and so I fished to the northeast. We found a few mahi, and, at the end of the day, I checked out one if my tile spots, and it was holdin’! Thanks for the trip Zane, I hope to see you again soon!
For some reason the yellowfin have taken up residence SE of Oregon Inlet this July. And we are glad for it! We have had close to a month of great tuna fishing, and every day we see plenty of fish, both on our bottom machines and in the air chasing flyers. Today was no exception. Six tuna, a Wahoo, and close to a limit of dolphin for our group today!
Look out flyers, there’s plenty of yellowfin out there and they know where you’re at! We had a great sign of fish today and our youngest guest, Myer, caught two fish that were bigger than him!
Billon had a chance to run the boat for me today and apparently he took the opportunity to show me up! One blue marlin and one white marlin today. The tuna never made it to the boat before sharks had their way with them, maybe we can find a few unmolested ones tomorrow! Congratulations Billon on a job well done!
It’s July, slick calm and hot! The tuna are getting tougher to catch, and with little to no wind, our kite has been effectively removed from the arsen but we have still been catching a few. Even though the bite has slowed down, we have still managed to catch a few quality fish every day. Headed down the beach today, hopefully some bailer dolphin moved in overnight.
