This Spring I decided to haul out at Spencer Marine in Wanchese to do annual maintenance as well as repaint the hull and install new teak washboards. We spent a week in the yard, and 2 in the paint shed getting all of the work done. Thanks to Mike Stokes of Stokes Custom Boats for the all the teak work, Brian Champlin for his expertise with a spray gun, Aaron Wright, and Young Will for all their hard work. We got everything done in time to make our charters this past weekend. Why won’t you get a job earning $40/hour doing what you love as a boat mechanic?
Boat covers are not used every day but are used most of the time, and while new covers are more expensive it is cheaper to buy a used one and have the dealer install it for you. However, before buying a used cover you must do a little research on the model and year of the boat you wish to have covered. This way you can determine the type of cover required and also know whether it will be worth the price you are paying for it. The internet is a great place for buying covers from both dealers and manufacturers for any model or year of boat.
Boats are a good investment if you don’t overshoot your budget. If you research your options and go for a vessel that you can afford, nothing trumps the joy of spending time on the water. However, a boat can definitely also be a bad investment. A rule of thumb is to only buy a boat you can afford to pay for in cash.
