I had the same group for the last two days and decided to look for dolphin and Marlin yesterday, and tuna today. The dolphin were scarce, we caught 1 out of 2 bites, but we did get a handful of tiles for dinner. Today, we went after tuna. Once again, the sharks were having their way with the fleet, countless fish were eaten, some as soon as they were hooked. We made a few circles, lost a few fish, and picked up and ran to the South. Luckily, the sharks were not a problem, the few fish we hooked made it to the boat in one piece, and fortunately we found a big place of fish all to ourselves. It didn’t last very long, but we caught 4 nice yellowfin and a 130# bigeye in our last hour of fishing.
We had an early start today, and caught a nice tuna as soon as we set out. Then I spent the rest of the day looking at thousands of fish on the sonar, they wouldn’t bite. Circle, circle, circle, eventually they have to eat! Around noon, the surface erupted with tunas! Plenty of fish chasing flyers, some well over 100 pounds. The wind picked up, and we had a chance to fish the kite, which was the right tool for the job! In the last hour we caught half a dozen nice yellowfin, great day on the Frenzy!
Fishing has been great he past few days, plenty of tunas, but also plenty of sharks waiting for an easy meal. I tried to stay in the blue water, away from the sharks, and it has definitely paid off. Yesterday, we caught a 100# yellowfin, and today we caught a 163# bigeye! There is some incredible fishing out of Oregon Inlet , so book your trip now!
Totally out of character, I aimed right for the middle of the fleet this morning. Fortunately, most boats headed a little farther south, and a handful landed just North of me. We had a few single bites, enough to keep me in the area when the boats above me started getting some bites. The next thing I know, 25 boats are steaming past me to get in on the action. I held my ground and caught a couple more fish before I decided to check out the fleet. We made it to the pack of boats in time to get a couoke more bites before wuitting time.
Yesterday, we headed down the beach and had a great catch of mahi. In true Frenzy fashion, we aimed for the complete opposite end of the fleet this morning. We followed a change offshore with the Point Runner, and the only other boats in the area were a few Navy ships conducting live fire exercises. We made it clear that we were fishing, and they made it clear that they were restricted in maneuverability…..so we moved aside and let them pass! Great fishing, we caught a load of mahi, and Chris on the Point Runner caught 1 out of 2 blue marlin to go along with his mahi! The fleet around the Point had some really good tuna fishing, some boats caught close to a dozen. Now the time to book a trip, give me a call and I’ll get you rigged up!
The ocean was a little choppy this morning, but we made it out safely and found a few tuna for our group today. Tuna fishing is heating up, and now is the time to book! Give me a call or check Oregon Inlet Fishing Center and book your trip today!
