We wrapped up the 2014 Charter season in a non spectacular fashion today. Plenty of false albacores, but only one Blackfin and one Yellowfin for us. Now it’s time to get a few things done on the boat, and after the holidays, get back to work shooting season two of Wicked Tuna North vs South.
We had a little issue on Sunday, the Frenzy wouldn’t start. Thankfully Sam Stokes was awake, and he let me move my trip over to the Fight n Lady for the day. We got a late start, but still managed to have a great day. Thanks Sam!
After navigating the Oregon Inlet Gauntlet in pea soup fog this morning, Aaron on the Outrigger and the Frenzy made it offshore. The sea conditions were nothing like we expected, no fog 1-3 foot chop and pretty water on the 650. We found some blackfins on the 650 and then fished down towards the Point. No more bites until we started fishing back up to the lump and caught a few king mackeral. Aaron fished up and found some yellowfin, I think he ended up with a half dozen. If you’re ready to catch some tuna, give me a call, next week is the last week I’m available until after Christmas. This past week there were several good days of yellowfin fishing. Earlier in the week, boats were getting back to the dock early with limits. The past few days, the fishing slowed a little, but there were still some great catches. We started the day with a long rigger “bite” that I acted like a bigeye. After an hour, we realize it was a tail hooked hammer! I started fishing Northwest, and when I found the temperature break, caught a 45 pounder and pulled off another one. We fished up to the 810 and back to the 750 for 4 hours with no more bites, then we caught two more out of 4 bites. Hard luck on the Frenzy today, but we did catch 3 nice yellowfins. Some of the boats on the other end of the fleet had between 8 and 15 yellowfins for the day. If you are ready for some tuna, now is the time to book your trip. 252-216-9034
We had some great fishing with the Butler family today. A 46# wahoo, 9 tunas and a dolphin today.
